Testimonies of Healing

I wish to express my gratitude for...

From the November 1924 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude for the joy and peace that Christian Science has brought into my life. About four years ago, when my husband and I, with two little children, were preparing to go East, I was taken very ill; in fact, I was stricken quite helpless. We had heard a little about Christian Science, and that there was a practitioner living next door. We decided to call this lady; and before she left our house I was sleeping soundly. When I awakened, I was better than I had been for some time. We thought this very wonderful; for, under the same difficulty,—nervous prostration, —in times past, it would have been some time before I could be relieved. We started on our journey the next morning; and throughout the trip harmony reigned. However, I did not take up the study of Christian Science, because I was afraid it would take me away from my church.

A few months later, during an epidemic of influenza, our baby of two years and I were taken very ill. I had previously returned to the physician, but I did not call him. I turned instead to the Bible and to ''Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and read for several hours. Soon I realized a wonderful sense of peace, and saw that the baby was sleeping naturally and peacefully. We were both healed.

About this time I was supposed to go on the operating table, as the doctors said it was the only thing to do. I had been through all this before; so that I knew it could mean only temporary relief. After my child and I were healed through reading Science and Health, I decided to turn wholly to Christian Science. The practitioner surprised me, because she did not say much about my healing being necessary, but told me I needed a mental healing,—that I needed more of God. At first I could not understand this; for I was a church member, and I had been sickly since the time I fell when a small child, and for the past twelve years had been seeking health. It seemed very easy for me to believe that the fall backwards down the stairs in childhood, which caused an injury to the spine, was the beginning of all the complications I now had. Almost every material means heard of had been tried faithfully,—electric, Viavi, chiropractic, and osteopathic; besides, some of the best allopathic physicians and surgeons, in their kind endeavor to help, had given but temporary relief.
