I never had been a strong woman; and after giving birth to several children, my health was not improved. In the spring of 1919, I was taken to a private hospital for a surgical operation. I was operated upon; and after staying there for many weeks, was sent home. During the remainder of the year I was very frail, but hoped as time went on to grow stronger. However, the next year I was much worse, and my doctor told me I should have to go to the hospital again and undergo a very serious operation. I was so discouraged that I was almost ready to give up. At this time a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was lent to me. At first I was very skeptical. I began by reading the chapter entitled "Fruitage." Then I said to myself, If these people can be healed, why cannot I?
I wrote to a practitioner for help. She began treating me; and in four days I was up and dressed. I have not had to lie in bed a day since. There are seven in my family. We have not had to call a doctor since, except to report cases of whooping cough. I cannot tell how much Christian Science has done for us all. Once I was a sick, invalid mother, in bed half the year; now I am well and do all my own work. Our children are all perfectly well and happy, and I am so grateful to be able to be a real mother to them.
I wish to express my thanks to the practitioner who so quickly and willingly helped me; to the dear friend who brought Christian Science to my notice; to those who have helped me along the way. My most sincere wish is to get a more thorough understanding of this great truth.—Bethel, Maine.
