In the first year of the war we read in a newspaper of a lawsuit in which a Christian Science practitioner in Berlin was involved. My mother was especially interested in the wonderful healings to which the witnesses testified.
I was suffering at the time from cystic calculus, but was so used to employing material means that it never occurred to me that I might find help in this spiritual way until sometime later, when my mother wanted Christian Science treatment, and asked me to go with her to meet a Christian Scientist. The lady told us of Christian Science and showed us a book containing the, to me, new teaching. Out of love to my mother I took treatment, too, though I must confess that I felt little or no interest in Christian Science, and did not expect much benefit for myself.
