Six years ago I was in a depressed condition. Interest in religion was gone, and I was practically an invalid, suffering from tuberculosis of the spine. I was encased in a plastic jacket, and upon my visits to the infirmary, where the best of advice from specialists had been given, I was told to be patient and reconcile myself to being an invalid for an indefinite time. Somehow, with my energetic disposition, it seemed impossible; and one day, when very despondent and silently wondering what the end of it all would be, I was reminded mentally of Mrs. Eddy's textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which had lain away for eight years in a trunk because not understood. In it I found that prayer is the desire of the heart; and my prayer was indeed answered when, after seeing a practitioner, I was completely and permanently healed within a week. As the weeks passed by a truss which had been worn for rupture, also glasses which had been used for years, were discarded. Now I feel I am living, not merely existing, and am leading an average normal woman's life with a definite hope and purpose.
For the different outlook, for the practical understanding of the Bible which can be proved in all the daily tasks, but above all for the true knowledge of what God is, I can never express sufficient gratitude. To be conscious of God as ever present, as merciful and compassionate Love, from whom no separation is possible, is indeed a foretaste of perfect harmony,—heaven. For all the peace, joy, and courage that now are mine I cannot cease to be grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who labored so unselfishly to give to the world the rediscovery of Truth.—Blackburn, Lancashire, England.
