About seven years ago I was led to take up the study of Christian Science through the healing of a dear friend who had previously suffered from nearly all the ills that "flesh is heir to." This healing seemed so marvelous that I decided to look further into the subject. I procured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and began to study it.
From the first reading I was pleased to find it so clear and logical in its reasoning. Nevertheless, for a long time it seemed difficult, if not impossible, to put its teachings into practice, in spite of the desire to do so. Then the opportunity came to test it. Our little boy, at that time about three and a half years old, had developed what our physician called a hernia, which caused him considerable trouble and pain. The physician had prescribed a bandage in the shape of a truss, which the boy had worn for about a year without any improvement whatever. So we decided to give Christian Science a trial. We were then living in a small town, and wrote for help to a Christian Science practitioner one hundred and thirty miles away. Absent treatment was very lovingly given, also good advice as to what our part should be. We tried not to make a reality of the trouble, and in about two weeks the hernia had disappeared entirely; and it has never returned. This was truly a revelation to us, and through the beautiful letters of the practitioner we were led to take up the daily reading of the Bible Lessons as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. Since that time Christian Science has been the only physician in our home.
I want to express my gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose inspired works have truly opened the Bible to me, have unfolded the truth, and have given me an understanding of God and an entirely new outlook on life.
