In expressing my gratitude for...

From the December 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In expressing my gratitude for Christian Science, I feel I can echo Job's thought, "I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee." I had been suffering for many months from an organic disease and had consulted three physicians, each of whom told me that an operation was the only means of relief. Having a great fear of operations, I was very much discouraged; and I was continually growing worse. In my extremity I turned to God, and prayed the best I knew how. Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 1), "Desire is prayer;" and my prayer was answered. A few days later a friend gave me some copies of The Christian Science Journal, asking me to read them. I consented, although I had no knowledge of Christian Science at that time. That afternoon, while reading a Journal, I was instantaneously healed. I was filled with gratitude to God and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who was pure enough to receive the angel visitant and give its message to the world. I also have been healed of colds and boils through the help of a loving practitioner. I am grateful that I have found a practical religion, for this is what I had been seeking.

I was healed five years ago. Since then Christian Science has been my only comfort. It has proved to be a preventive as well as a curative. I know all things are possible with God. It has been my privilege to have class instruction. For all these blessings I am profoundly grateful; also for church membership and Sunday school work.—
