Testimonies of Healing

From the December 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 83) Mrs. Eddy writes of Mind as "holding man forever in the rhythmic round of unfolding bliss, as a living witness to and perpetual idea of in-exhaustible good." Through the study of Christian Science there has been in my experience constantly "unfolding bliss." Each day brings added proof of God's "wonderful works to the children of men."

Quite recently the electric car in which two other persons and I were riding was struck by a heavy gas car coming uphill at a high rate of speed. The side of our car was demolished, but we were not even bruised, though the impact of the cars threw us all forward. In place of the confusion usually attendant upon such circumstances, there was a sense of security and harmony expressed by every one. Peter in his second epistle writes that there "are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises," and I know for a certainty that God's promises are kept. The assurance, "The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore," was surely tested in this incident, and serious consequences were averted.

I was healed in less than a week of a severe attack of muscular rheumatism; also of nervous indigestion, influenza, and minor ailments. At one time in stepping off a train I sprained my ankle severely. The first thought was to call, by means of long distance telephone, a practitioner; but almost immediately the thought came: What can the practitioner do that you cannot? God is right here, and you have but to realize His presence and omnipotence as the practitioner would. The pain was excruciating, but by the time I reached my destination it had abated somewhat, and 1 walked up a long flight of steps unaided. The occasion required my standing the greater part of the afternoon, and that too was done without any difficulty. Upon my return home that evening, I found the ankle entirely black and greatly swollen. This condition remained for several days, but during that time I wore a high-heeled shoe, walked freely, and had no pain or discomfort of any sort.
