THE POINT OF DISCOVERY

From the February 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Thought at the point of discovery is ever fresh and joyous, and to it new views of spiritual beauty and harmony are continually appearing. From this point radiates the light of spiritual understanding, whereby God and man are seen to be at-one. Here thought, with childlike simplicity, trustfulness, and receptivity, marvels at the revelation of Love's glories. Mrs. Eddy defines this point in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 121) when she says, "Spirit and matter, good and evil, seem to grapple, and the human struggles against the divine, up to a point of discovery; namely, the impotence of evil, and the omnipotence of good, as divinely attested."

When the student of Christian Science takes his stand for the demonstration of perfection, he recognizes the need constantly to establish his thinking on the basis of perfect God and, His perfect spiritual man. At this point in declaration, his realization of its power immediately begins to unfold. Is not this the point of discovery where human thought begins to perceive glimpses of what God has already done? What duration of time it may require to attain to it matters little, since all material sense that claims to separate one from this vision is part of the false dream from which mortals must eventually awaken. The joy is in the sure consciousness that each one must and shall awaken. Troublous times and dire experiences may have to be surmounted, but these efforts only purify thought and prepare it to loosen its hold on materiality and to claim its satisfying and spiritual birthright of harmony and perfection.

Our beloved Leader may not have known, during the early years of trial and cross-bearing, that she was being prepared to give to the world her great message. Yet those very experiences through which she passed enabled her to attain to that point of discovery wherein she .perceived the infinite spiritual realities of Being, perfect Principle and idea. Her love was so great that she consecrated her every thought to giving the blessing to humanity. Christian Science is God's gift, through His willing messenger. Oh, the joy—yet, withal, the humility and gratitude—with which we are blessed in striving to be obedient followers!
