For many years I have enjoyed reading the Journal, and often have received help from articles and testimonies therein. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was lent to me in 1908, and as I read the first chapter, that on Prayer, I felt that all my preconceived ideas must be turned upside down and inside out if Christian Science was true. At that time I did not feel ready to give up all, as it seemed to demand; but Mrs. Eddy's wonderful statements in that first chapter of our textbook often came into my thought; and in 1909, I bought my first copy of Science and Health and began to study and learn something of the Truth which is Life.
I was healed of long-standing tonsillitis when in such a weak state that it seemed as if I should pass on. I had a week's treatment, and in the middle of the week attended a Christian Science lecture held in an adjacent town. I went to that lecture feeling very weak, and returned in full health and strength.
In the early part of 1914, I slid several meters down a mountain. There had been a heavy fall of snow, between five and six meters deep, and the rocks and usual danger signals were obliterated. Suddenly I was brought to a sharp standstill by coming into contact with a point of rock. The pain was so severe as to numb me for some seconds, but I knew the truth as far as I was able. After about twenty minutes of continued right thinking I was able to return home, a distance of about three quarters of an hour's walk.
