FAITH THAT COMFORTS AND HEALS

From the October 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE golden thread of a living faith is woven into the web of Bible history from first to last, exemplified in numerous cases of deliverance and protection. Many of these examples of spiritual faith embraced by the ancient worthies stand out in grand relief against a background of traditional blind belief, showing that these inspired heroes understood God; and not only this, but that they were willing to submit their understanding to the test of demonstration.

The capacity to define God correctly is the basis of that healing faith made manifest in the works of Jesus the Christ. Indeed, it may be said that the vast number of those healed in Christian Science to-day owe their deliverance to an awakening consciousness of God as the only Life, forever reflected by spiritual man in perfect health and wholeness. A well-defined understanding of God, resting upon a spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures, or the Christianly scientific meaning into which the inspired Word must be translated, is fundamental to the faith that supersedes belief.

The faith that entertains no doubt of God's willingness to heal is a spiritually regenerative power which, reflected in clarity of thought and prayerful desire, operates to annul the spurious claim of evil in every case. Physical healing is the awakening from the dream of material sense and the becoming conscious of Truth and Truth's idea; in other words, the having in some measure that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."
