It is with a heart full of gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the great benefit received through Christian Science that I write this testimony.
When a young girl I suffered from a severe throat trouble. Later on, asthma developed; and for many years I suffered from what was called spasmodic asthma. I was never entirely free from difficult breathing, and at times the spasms were very severe. All that loving hands could do was done for me. The best physicians were employed, and many remedies used; also, many changes were made with the hope that through change of climate health might be restored, but this brought only temporary relief.
It was while living in southern Oregon that I first heard of Christian Science. The name appealed to me, and I felt that I wanted to know something about it. At a time when I was at my father's home, and when things seemed very dark, I asked a friend if she knew anything about Christian Science. She said, "Yes, and I have Mrs. Eddy's book and will lend it to you." I had not known that there was a textbook. After reading a few pages of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" I felt that I wanted a copy of my own; so the book was sent for.
