Testimonies of Healing

Jesus said, "Ye shall know the...

From the October 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." From the fullness of my own experience I can testify to the truth of these words. Christian Science came to me when I was greatly in need of physical healing. Since childhood I had been ailing continually, and scarcely knew what it meant to be free for a day from pain or suffering. The physical condition grew worse; and I soon found myself in a weak and nervous condition, unable to walk more than a short distance, and trembling at the slightest sound. When suffering most, I was told that I would always be frail and delicate and would never be able to be out of bed for a whole day. This only added to my misery and suffering; I was unhappy and discouraged, as I felt myself in a hopeless condition.

It was at this time that I heard of Christian Science. I went to a practitioner, who lovingly told me of the allness and goodness of God, and assured me that there was nothing to fear. As I heard for the first time of God's great love for His child, of the unlimited health, strength, and harmony which are man's birthright, of the unreality and nothingness of all that is unlike God, good, I felt, as it were, a great weight being lifted from me. And into my consciousness came a sense of freedom and dominion. I realized that it was my divine right to be free, because God had made me free, and that there was no power that could hold me in subjection. The peace that came to me from that moment was truly "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." The consciousness of the all-presence and power of infinite divine Love not only healed me completely, but gave me an ever increasing desire to know God.

It has always been helpful to me, when endeavoring to work out what has seemed to be a big problem, to pause and realize the truth of the words of the Psalmist, "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." And I have found that whenever I have stopped and thanked God for man's perfection and for His infinite goodness, my problems have disappeared.
