Some years ago my sister-in-law, who had been healed of a nervous breakdown, called my attention to Christian Science. Although my own attitude and that of my husband towards Christian Science was one of rejection, and we even derided my sister-in-law, we were eventually persuaded to visit a practitioner in order that my husband might be healed of nervous attacks and difficult breathing, which occurred regularly during the night. As we had never had any confidence in medical treatment, we thought we would try Christian Science, although we were not especially convinced. However, as was to be expected, my husband was healed in a short time; and by studying the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and other Christian Science literature during this time, two convinced atheists were converted into two people who had learned to believe in God and the import of life and creation.
Our son experienced a wonderful healing some years ago. He had cut his hand very badly, and as a result had a serious case of blood poisoning. The evidence of the senses was very alarming and great fear crept into my consciousness. As I was determined not to consult a physician, although others urgently advised it, I asked a practitioner for help in Christian Science. Absent treatment was given; the practitioner was not personally acquainted with me or with my son. The very next morning my boy had regained his appetite, and the fever had left him; but to outward appearances there did not seem to be any improvement in the hand. When I informed the practitioner over the telephone of his condition, she asked me if I were applying any material remedies. It then became clear to me that the poultices which I had applied were not in accordance with Christian Science, and I took them off at once. The same evening I was able to see improvement, and in the course of the following day the hand opened and discharged. It took some time for the wound to heal, because I could not clear my consciousness of all fear.
A few weeks later my husband was also completely healed of a bad abscess, fever, and poor health in general, in two absent treatments; whereas, when he was suffering from the same discordant condition once before and was under medical treatment, he suffered for a very long time.
