With a deep sense of gratitude for the way Christian Science has led and is still leading us, I shall relate a healing which was the means of making an entire family students of this gospel of healing.
About seven years ago, while we were living in the country, one of our children, then a girl in her early teens, developed pneumonia. Some months previous to this, she had been a victim of the same disease and had been attended by a regular physician. He had been very kind, but nevertheless had not pronounced the child out of danger till after ten days, and he also had said she was liable to a recurrence of the trouble. During the intervening months my attention had been drawn to the beauties of the truth contained in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. So, for this second attack of pneumonia, I very earnestly desired Christian Science treatment for the girl; but her father, not having looked into Science, and so having no faith in it, was not satisfied to have me telephone to a practitioner.
It was morning when our daughter became ill, and as the day wore on she became very ill indeed, and I prayed very sincerely for help and guidance. About five in the afternoon, my husband came to me and told me if I was anxious to telephone to a practitioner he had no objections. I quickly sought the child's permission, but she was in such a state of fear that I had to promise she should have the family doctor if she was not satisfied with the result of Christian Science treatment. The state of fear was so excessive that my husband had to stay with the child while I telephoned for help; but when I reentered the bedroom she said, "Mother, I 'm not a bit afraid now; I 'm going to sleep." The healing was practically instantaneous, for she actually turned over and slept all night. The symptoms of hemorrhage stopped, and one by one the other ugly symptoms disappeared. In thirty-six hours our daughter was able to get up, and in a short time she was back at school.
