During the early part of 1917 a growth started on my ear. After a short time it became sore, and grew larger; and I had every reason to believe it was something malignant. My good wife, who is a Christian Scientist of many years' experience and has all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, had told me of many wonderful healings through Christian Science. I then for the first time took up the "little book," "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had not finished reading the first chapter before my wrong opinion of Christian Science and its beloved Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy, had completely changed. I seemed to know this was my only hope of healing, so I solicited the help of a Christian Science practitioner, who treated me for some time. I experienced benefit in many ways; but the sore kept getting worse, and I became greatly alarmed. I talked with the practitioner, and it was mutually agreed that I should change practitioners. I accordingly wrote to my wife's sister in California, who is a practitioner, and asked her to treat me. She lovingly consented; and her first letter was so full of love and confidence in God's ability and willingness to heal me, that I lost the great fear I had had. Shortly afterwards she came to visit at our home; and she had been with us for only about two weeks when I was healed.
During all the time I received Christian Science treatment I never consulted a doctor, nor did I take any medicine, but relied entirely on Christian Science, and seemed to know that I would be healed, although several doctors came to me and told me that it was a cancer and advised an operation. I thanked them sincerely, but never wavered from Christian Science; for by the constant reading of the Bible and Science and Health I had gained sufficient understanding of God and His merciful kindness to give me unlimited confidence. I therefore had no thought of or desire for any other means of healing.
I am very thankful to God, to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioners who so lovingly worked for and with me for this healing; also for many other healings and blessings received through Christian Science.
