It is now many years since I heard...

From the August 1926 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is now many years since I heard of Christian Science, and the first reading of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, brought me freedom from a form of indigestion from which I had suffered for a long time. Since then I have had many healings from colds, chills, and influenza; but the physical healing for which I am most grateful was of a lifelong fear of bronchial asthma, through Christian Science treatment. Several of my near relations had suffered much from this ailment; and when I was attacked by it, it was some time before I saw that man made in God's image and likeness can inherit only the good gifts of our Father, divine Love. As I began to understand our Leader's words in Science and Health (p. 316), "Christ presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs," they helped me to see that a tendency to any disease or any inherited weakness cannot possibly belong to the man of God's creating. As I saw this I was freed of this fear, and at the same time of the difficulty. I cannot say how grateful I am for this healing.

Recently I had the privilege of attending the services at The Mother Church for some weeks, and I should like to express something of the gratitude I feel for this. In that great church one does indeed get an increased sense of Love's call to Christian Scientists to stand fast in the day of temptation and so help on the work, begun by our Leader, of resisting impersonal evil from a scientific basis, the basis of unchanging Principle.

I should also like to say how much I appreciated a week spent at the sanatorium of The Christian Science Benevolent Association. It was a great joy to see how harmoniously our Leader's plan has unfolded, and how those in need of mental or physical help can rest and recuperate in this beautifully appointed home. All those in charge give out love and encouragement so abundantly. I feel that when in Boston all Christian Scientists from distant parts should, if possible, see for themselves something of this great work.
