Testimonies of Healing

It had been my earnest desire for...

From the February 1928 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It had been my earnest desire for years to overcome the many discords that manifested themselves from early childhood, but try as hard as I might I was unable to overcome them until I began the study of Christian Science. About five years ago I was advised by a loving Christian Science friend to purchase the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I began earnestly to study and apply the truth that is presented therein.

Not long after I began this study I noticed that false appetites, such as the use of tobacco and strong drink, were disappearing. While still a schoolboy I had acquired the habit of gambling. This I always was ashamed of, though I seemed unable to give it up for any length of time. Now I can truthfully say that I am entirely healed of these habits; the desire for them has completely left me. I also suffered from a difficulty that developed soon after my arrival from overseas service. I was examined by a physician, who pronounced it to be due to a bad heart and high blood pressure and said that I never would be well again. I was very nervous and irritable. At times I was afraid to trust myself alone, because I thought the end would soon come. I weighed much less than my normal weight. After trying to work out my own salvation, I found I needed help. I went to see a practitioner in May, 1924. After six treatments had been given, I noticed that all the erroneous symptoms had disappeared. When I took the first treatment I asked the practitioner if I would be able to continue my regular work. She replied, "Oh, yes." I wanted to get a better understanding of this truth, so I continued taking the treatments for ten weeks. I have complete proof that I was entirely healed without the use of any material remedies or any loss of time from my regular duties.

Since these demonstrations have been made, the protecting power of God has been proved to me, for my work as a railroad man takes me into some difficult places.
