About three years ago I had a beautiful healing of a broken arm entirely through the power of Truth, as we are taught to apply it in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I caught my heel on the top step of a long flight of stairs and fell heavily into the hall below. As I was falling I recognized the truth that "accidents are unknown to God," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 424 of this book, and I did not feel the least fear, but only an interest in what was happening, as if I were an onlooker. I came down with a crash, but did not lose consciousness; and I said to a stranger who was passing that if he would kindly lift me up and put me on my feet I could walk upstairs to my flat : which I did. I then lay down and told my maid, who was a Christian Scientist, to ring up a practitioner and then come and read "the scientific statement of being" (ibid., p. 468) to me. The practitioner arrived very soon, and after she had been working about twenty minutes all sense of pain left me; and I did not feel any inconvenience, unless I happened to get pushed or knocked, until the healing was complete. I could feel the grating of bones, so knew there must be a fracture, and my hand was badly swollen and powerless ; but as several of my near relatives were bitterly opposed to Christian Science I thought it wiser to get a medical opinion to corroborate my own, as I knew they would believe a surgeon's word. I therefore called in a well-known surgeon, and he said on examination that two bones in the wrist were broken and that it was a very serious fracture. I thanked him and declined any further help. No material remedies were used, except a small splint, which my daughter, who is a Christian Science nurse, put under the arm and hand with a sling round my neck to support the weight. In less than a fortnight I was able to use my hand freely, and all traces of discoloration had disappeared. I showed my hand to the surgeon, who had taken a kindly interest in the case, and he said such a rapid healing would have been quite impossible under ordinary surgical treatment. "I have a case now," he continued, "of a young man who broke his arm in the same place four months ago and has had it in a plaster cast ever since, but as yet there is no sign of the bones knitting." This healing made such an impression on the good doctor that he turned seriously to the study of the textbook, and is now convinced of the efficacy of Truth as a healing power.— London, England.
