THE teachings of Christian Science, based on the understanding of absolute Truth, are founded on immutable law. False beliefs have no Principle to sustain them; mortal concepts are changing continually. Christian Science enables us not to believe, but to know; and our safety lies in the understanding of man's unchanging relationship to infinite Life, invariable Truth, divine Love, and to the changeless law of Soul, which maintains man's harmony and immortality forever intact.
As we grasp the fact that the laws of God are inexorable, yet tender, we can speak with authority to the so-called human mind, expectant that omnipotent Love will stop the tormenting pictures of man as old, decrepit, sinful, sick, dying. Mortal mind is the sole producer and operator of these seeming pictures—inverted images all ; and with what relief do the weary and heart-hungry turn from the shadowy material pantomime, with its exaggerations, to anchor safely on the rock of unchangeable Love ! Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, sums up the subject tersely on page 96 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," when she writes, "Belief is changeable, but spiritual understanding is changeless."
Divine Life, which is without beginning or ending, does not change; and the Christian Scientist is profoundly grateful for the understanding which exempts from evil beliefs that are well-nigh universal. He has only to change his thinking, and to gain the higher outlook of divine Mind, to experience stability and a wonderful peace and serenity. He needs to erase false concepts by clinging to the counter facts of Truth, as revealed in Christian Science, to prove that there is no law of decadence, no ebb and flow of Life, no death-process for the incorporeal spiritual idea.
