Christian Science has been my only physician for many years, and words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God for all it has done for me and mine, and for all it is doing for the whole world. Weak lungs, pneumonia, bronchitis, influenza, a badly sprained ankle, ptomaine poisoning, and severe colds have all been healed through the application of Christian Science. Some of these healings were instantaneous. I am grateful now, however, for healings which were longer in being accomplished, for this forced me to study and thus to gain a better understanding of the divine Principle which heals. I had great faith in God, but not a correct understanding of Him; so I kept studying the Bible with the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, never becoming discouraged, until the understanding of God and man was clearly revealed to me. With this encouraging enlightenment I am still pressing on.
The truth of a passage in Science and Health (p. 550), where our Leader says, "God is the Life, or intelligence, which forms and preserves the individuality and identity of animals as well as of men," has been proved to me many times. The healings of our animals have nearly always been instantaneous.
At one time while I was suffering with congestion of the lungs, a Christian Science lecture was to be given at an army post thirty miles from Honolulu, which I wished to attend. I was advised by a member of the family not to go, but the desire for the healing message I knew I would receive, was so urgent I felt impelled to go. While listening to the lecture I became very ill and felt myself falling over on a friend, who whispered words of comfort to me about God. Presently I heard the lecturer say, "There is no death." In a few moments I was listening attentively to the lecture, suddenly realizing I was free. After the lecture, fear crept in about driving home. Immediately the thought came that the truth the lecturer had emphasized, the truth that had healed me, would govern and guide me home. I drove home without the slightest difficulty, rejoicing all the way. The complete healing was permanent.
