For years it seemed necessary that I diet, and the diet consisted of hardly enough to sustain me. With sleepless nights and restless days, my endurance was about exhausted when Christian Science came into my life.
Physicians had diagnosed my case as weakly functioning organs ; tuberculosis of the intestines; enlargement, palpitation, murmur, and leaky valves of the heart. My life seemed attended with nothing but discomfort, and I seemed waiting patiently for time to claim its prey. As days passed by and nights came with sleeplessness, a great number of sleeping powders were taken over a period of twenty years. At last a glimpse of the truth came to me through a loved one who had studied Christian Science for many years. I was finally led into a Christian Science church service for the first time. There I heard the words, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free;" also, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 494). But the truth seemed soon to be erased; for specialists were again called and my condition diagnosed, without my receiving any help.
Even though I could not express myself to those around me, I was thinking of the words, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." At last patience was to have its reward, and in the small hours of the morning the words again came to me, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," and, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Until that time I had been helpless; then I sat up in bed and declared, "I am healed, and healed through Christian Science."
