Testimonies of Healing

"Freely ye have received, freely...

From the December 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Freely ye have received, freely give," was Christ Jesus' command to his disciples ere they took their missionary journey. Having received so much good from the printed testimonies of others in the past several years, I feel that my turn to contribute has arrived. A daughter's quick and complete healing of gastritis and the use of glasses attracted me to Christian Science, several kindly doctors having given her only temporary relief.

Four winters in succession I was seized with bronchitis. Osteopath and chiropractor helped me for the time being. The fourth winter came a second attack, accompanied with hemorrhage. Acting on my daughter's advice I saw a practitioner. The first treatment was effective, and I was well in a few days. Although no mention was made of minor troubles, corns, a tendency to take cold easily, and chronic constipation vanished. The practitioner said, "God heals you, and you never need have the same trouble again, as His work is perfect." Those words have been a solid rock of defense for me in the subsequent years.

One of three instantaneous healings I also desire to relate. Being yet somewhat of a boy at sixty, I tried a flying leap over water several feet wide in a small creek with ice along both sides and thin snow covering the ice. I cleared the creek but came heavily down, nearly smashing the side of one knee. As I endeavored to rise and stand, something seemed to say, Let God take care of this through Christian Science. I brushed off the snow; the pain ceased, and I walked several miles into town. "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength," was my only aid on the way. Next morning there was no pain, lameness, or bruise. God did His perfect work, and I had no aid from any practitioner. A similar accident, two years previously, laid me up for eight weeks. I am surely thankful to God that He sent us Christ Jesus and His humble and devoted servant, Mary Baker Eddy, to make plain the laws of this Science in the healing of sin, sickness, disease, and all other inharmonies.—
