Twenty-two years ago I lay on my bed a physical wreck, suffering from stomach and liver trouble, and nervous prostration. I was in constant pain, had not experienced a normal night's sleep in weeks, and was discouraged and desperate. Every material means that had been employed—medicine, operation, and change of climate—had failed after several years of trial.
The pastor of the church of which I was a member said to me, "Why not try Christian Science?" He told me I would have to get Mrs. Eddy's book and read it, and gave me the name of it, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Every word, every sentence, seemed so wonderful and just what I had longed for that I could hardly put the book down. I read day and night. The Lord's Prayer with its spiritual interpretation, as found on pages 16 and 17 of Science and Health, was the grandest thing I had ever read and seemed virtually to lift me up. My healing, needless to say, was rapid, and at the end of two weeks I was a well woman and the marvel of my friends and neighbors.
After I had been reading for about six weeks I experienced a beautiful instantaneous healing of defective vision, from which I had suffered since a very small child. I had been a slave to the use of glasses for over twenty-two years. So severe was this trouble, and so unusual a case was it considered, that a physician and oculist at the head of one of our largest schools, who had treated me, had the case presented to the medical field through the American Medical Magazine. I am most grateful for all of these physical healings, and many more too numerous to mention They are, however, the smallest part of Christian Science.
