Testimonies of Healing

When Christian Science was...

From the December 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christian Science was brought to my notice I was rapidly becoming an invalid from what doctors called paralysis of the nerves. I was weak from prostrated nerves, heart trouble, depression, insomnia, hemorrhoids, and constipation.

A Christian Science Sentinel was given me by a friend who called one afternoon and found me lying on a couch. I asked her if she ever suffered as I had. She replied, ''I did, but I do not any more." I then told her that I had tried eight of the best physicians in the city without getting any relief, and said, "What did you do?" She was silent for a moment, then replied, "I am a Christian Scientist." I asked her what Christian Science was, and she replied that she would bring me a copy of a Sentinel to read. She did so and asked me to read the testimonies, explaining to me that they stated facts. In the first one I read I saw that Christian Science is the teaching of Christ Jesus. When the time came to take my medicine I poured it into a spoon and lifted it to my lips. I hesitated, and affirmed aloud, "If God heals others, He will heal me." I poured it back into the bottle, never fearing in the least or desiring to take the medicine, which was discarded at once.

My son and I meet everything with the truth, as we realize that God is All. He is now sixteen years of age, and every discordant condition that arises is overcome with Christian Science treatment. By reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was soon able to lead a busy, active life caring for my home and store. I do not find words in which to express my gratitude to our Father-Mother God for His great love, and for the clear interpretation of the Bible given by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy. My greatest desire is to help others as I have been helped through Christian Science. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for class instruction.—
