Often when I have felt the need of rest and comfort the testimonies of healing in the periodicals and in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, have furnished a rich, abiding sense of the joy and gratitude which heal so quickly.
Several years ago I was riding alone. My horse was noticeably disturbed, and quite suddenly turned a corner, throwing me down a slight embankment. I felt a severe pain at the back of my head. On arising and seeing the animal's great fear and evident concern, I talked with him, feeling a great sense of compassion, declaring that nothing but God and His law and presence were the actual fact, and that we had nothing to fear. After he was quieted I sat for a minute by the roadside reaching out to God for the right idea to destroy the sense of pain; and the words came, "Nothing shall by any means hurt you." This, together with the spiritual understanding gained through the study of Christian Science, was clung to steadfastly for several hours, during which I endeavored to allow nothing else to have place. By evening the healing was complete.
When my husband passed on, such love came into my experience through kindly relatives and friends that there was no room for a selfish sense of grief. The situation, it is true, seemed very difficult; but each time a sense of heaviness or depression would suggest itself I found immediate freedom in turning to God, our Father-Mother, to know that as God's idea my husband was well and happy, and growing in the understanding of the ever present reality of Life, even as we who are here. My right prayer I knew was with power; and I was so grateful for the calm which instantly followed, the knowing that all was well.
