In the spring of 1914, while seeking the truth regarding life, I entered for the first time a Christian Science church. Little did I realize, as I passed through its portals, the joy, healing, and comfort that may come to all honest seekers of Truth. If I could have peered into the vista of the years to come, my joy would have known no bounds; for there I have found, as promised by the master Christian, Christ Jesus, the truth that makes one free. The gratitude that wells up in my heart for having had Christianity presented from a joyful standpoint is unbounded. One thing that accentuates itself to me is the fact that Christian Scientists worship at the shrine of the risen Christ, instead of the crucified Jesus, and that they are constantly striving to live a beautiful life, instead of preparing for a so-called beautiful death, as I had been taught to do. I am also especially grateful to have discovered that the only things which can be destroyed are erroneous beliefs; and as the right understanding of God and man is gained, one rejoices to see the "false landmarks," of which Mrs. Eddy speaks in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'' (p. 324), disappear.
Many detrimental habits have disappeared, such as smoking cigarettes, cursing and swearing, quick temper; also coughs and colds of a periodical nature, and an internal trouble, have been overcome; and fear of the future has changed into a desire to live. Much arrogance and self-righteousness has been dissipated and replaced with a deeper sense of humility; but there is still much to be learned with respect to this wonderful, Godlike healing quality. Greater reverence and deeper love for God have come, also recognition of the unique position of our Leader in the world. This understanding apparently comes only as the truth dawns upon a mortal's benighted consciousness. Gratitude I would express for all the channels provided by the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science for the dissemination of the truth, and for all the loving practitioners who help us along the way from darkness into light.—Rochester, New York.
