IN Christian Science, which is the law of God, divine Mind, all facts and rules are subject to proof. A dictionary definition of "proof" is, "Something proved or gained by experience." And this is what the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, has done; for every statement set forth in her wonderful textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has behind it the authority of proof, which has been gained through rich experience.
Think what this means to mankind! Proofs, actual proofs, that God's Word is present and constantly demonstrable! And our Leader's own words on page 126 of this textbook declare its inseparability from the Bible. She says: "I have set forth Christian Science and its application to the treatment of disease just as I have discovered them. I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men; and I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth."
Christian Scientists are deeply grateful for their beloved Leader, who lived so close to God that she was empowered to give us those clear, definite rules whereby we, too, may prove man's unity with the Father. She has stated a fundamental fact most simply in the wonderful paragraph in Science and Health (p. 468) called "the scientific statement of being," where she writes, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation,' for God is All-in-all."
