Before coming into Christian Science I was suffering from nervous prostration with many complications. When I had lost all faith in medical science a kind friend suggested that I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. With no thought of being healed, but merely from love of reading, I read and continued to read this book for two weeks. At the end of that time I suddenly realized that Christian Science reveals God, Truth, and remarked to a member of the family that this book contained the truth and that I was healed. My thought was so changed that I felt an immediate urge to get up and go to work. I arose from my chair well. All the afternoon, as I went about my work, I kept wondering how the reading of a book could change one from a sick, sorrowing, nervous person into one full of health, hope, and joy. While preparing dinner I proved the truth of Christian Science in another way. A large quantity of smoking fat was spilled over my hand. At first I thought of using medical treatment for relief. Then at once the thought came to me: No, Christian Science states the truth, and I will prove it. Immediately the sense of pain left me, and not a trace of inflammation remained. Imagine my joy and gratitude!
Since then I have experienced many blessings from the study and application of Christian Science. One experience I wish to relate occurred during the earthquake in Santa Barbara a few years ago. While I was preparing breakfast the earthquake began with a series of shocks. I at once commenced to apply the truth, and all fear left me. I was standing in front of a large cupboard and felt perfectly calm, realizing that God, divine Love, is the only real power. A member of my family was manifesting great fear, and called to me to come out of the house. However, not feeling any fear, I remained where I was until he called the second time. The shocks became more severe, and it was almost impossible to move. Feeling calm myself, but not wishing to keep him in fear on my account, I tried to walk out of the house. No sooner had I moved away than the cupboard fell, striking the floor where I had been standing, with terrific force. For this proof of God's protection I am truly grateful.
Christian Science, when properly applied, has met all my needs for many years. I have been permanently healed of sciatic rheumatism and many minor ailments. Christian Science has flooded my life with peace and joy. My one desire is to know and express more of this healing and regenerating truth.— Fresno, California.
