MAN'S HERITAGE IS FREEDOM

From the May 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God made man free!
O ringing words
That lift my soul above the senses' sway
And open wide to me the heavenly gates!
There may I soar above beliefs
Of trammeling flesh,
And ever find
My perfect self, forever one with Thee!

God made man free!
Fear cannot stand
Before the mighty presence of His love.
Fear is illusion. See its nothingness,
And know that always in His law
You dwell serenely safe.
God will not fail!
Lift up your heart and glorify His name!

God made man free!
No bondage then
Within the realm where Spirit holds control,
But freedom, never known to earth-bound sense!
O weary one, rise up and claim
That which was never lost—
Your heritage
Secure, because the Father gave it thee.

God made man free!
Be glad! Rejoice!
Nor listen longer to the lying claims
That seek to bind you fast with prison chains.
Walk forth to-day—God's power heals!
The Son of man once rent
The rock-bound tomb!
He came to show the way to you and me.
