Testimonies of Healing

In the year 1921, after suffering...

From the October 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the year 1921, after suffering for five years from a war wound in the head, I turned to Christian Science through the advice of a friend. I went to see a practitioner, and before leaving the office requested a treatment. The practitioner asked me if I was willing to be as obedient to Christian Science as I had been to the doctors, saying that, if so, I should read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and turn away from material medicines to God. I had three treatments from the practitioner within ten days and was perfectly healed, not only of the war wound, but also of many ailments that I had had since childhood.

As I have progressed in my understanding of this great truth, I have realized that I was instantaneously healed the first morning I went to the practitioner's office, but it was ten days before I recognized the fact. Since then I have had many proofs that obedience to God's spiritual law delivers us from evil to-day, just as it did nearly two thousand years ago when the Master said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

A recent experience shows how we are guided to do the right thing at the right time if we put our trust in God. My business firm offered me a very good position in another city; but as I had still about four months to serve to complete my term of office as a Reader in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and my desire was to "seek . . . first the kingdom of God," I refused the position. After the new Readers had been appointed, I learned that the post was still vacant. I had an interview with the manager of my firm on Thursday, completed my term of office on Sunday, and took up my new post on Monday. This proved to me the truth of our beloved Leader's words (Science and Health, p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself;" and (ibid., p. 496), "In Christian Science the first duty is to obey God."
