"Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind," writes Paul in Romans. Christian Science is literally transforming my life, bringing into it health, strength, joy, supply, activity, and freedom.
About six years ago, while sitting in a dentist's office waiting to have an infected wisdom tooth extracted, I thought of God and Christian Science. I had been having medical treatment from two dentists and a doctor for over a week and had become worse. After the dentist had looked into my mouth. I told him I believed I would not have him do anything for me. I left his office without having the tooth extracted and called on a Christian Science practitioner, who asked me to read the ninety-first psalm and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This I did. Immediately all fear left me and I had perfect confidence that I was going to be healed. For the first time in a week I was able that night to eat some soft food, and in five days I was completely healed. With this healing came also that of constipation and indigestion.
I did not then, however, begin studying Christian Science or attending church. Later on I asked for help for an internal trouble which a reputable physician said would necessitate an operation; but as I did not seem to improve, the treatment was discontinued. The pain was with me almost constantly from early spring to the fall. I then realized I must work out my own salvation. I memorized "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) and the ninety-first psalm and repeated them constantly going to and from my work, and at every opportunity during the day. I was immediately relieved, and in six weeks healed. I was so astounded at the sudden healing that at first I hesitated to say it had been accomplished by my own efforts. I found that on telling of this healing the pain would return. I was reminded that I was thinking I had really had a pain and been healed of it; whereas in reality God's idea had never had a pain but had always been harmonious. From then on I could testify to this healing without a recurrence of it.
