AWAKENING

From the February 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When time seemed long and days were heavy-laden,
Weighed down with fear and doubt and fleshly ill,
I struggled on, nor sensed God's loving presence,
Nor heard the sweet voice saying, "Peace, be still."

I had not learned that Love is all-sufficient
To answer every need, though great or small;
I did not know our Father comprehendeth
And taketh note of e'en the sparrow's fall.

And then one day I sought and found Love's healing;
Like Paul, I found the truth that maketh free;
No more the mists of sense obscured my vision—
The scales fell from my eyes, and I did see.

Dear God, I thank Thee for Thy glorious message,
And pray that I may ever worthy prove
To carry Truth's eternal banner onward,
The emblem of omnipotence and Love.
