ABUNDANCE

From the February 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN the admonition of Jesus, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you," is summed up the divine requirement for that abundant sense of life which alone can satisfy the heart's deepest cravings. Spiritual progress, with its added incidental human benefits, is assured by following this command. To seek more of matter is never the real answer to a problem of lack: this would be only a temporary, hence unsatisfactory, solution. Spiritual understanding shows that a sense of lack is a diseased belief, which never obtains in the divine Mind or its manifestation, the Christ-idea. Thus any sense of limitation is destroyed by holding steadfastly to the truth about the one Mind, where perfect and infinite substance exists and is forever expressed by the real man.

To realize that the loving Father-Mother God has abundantly provided for His children removes the burdened sense of trying to plan for to-morrow's needs; for it is His prerogative to outline man's every activity with its attendant supply. To leave God's work to Him brings peace and confidence, and prevents mere human opinions and plans from seeming to obstruct His perfect will.

Man is the infinite expression of infinite Mind, and this ever present Mind Mrs. Eddy has referred to as perpetual motion. This unceasing activity of divine Mind expresses itself in perfectly sustaining man's immortal being. This precludes the possibility that man can suffer from lack or idleness. It is demonstrably true that a belief of inactivity cannot long exist if man's indestructible unity with God is firmly held to; for thereby latent errors of enmity, resentment, self-indulgence, and the like are cast out. When love takes the place of a critical sense of one's fellow-men, doors which were closed are gently and graciously opened for profitable service.
