Christian Science came to the attention of my husband and myself about one month before he was taken with influenza, during an epidemic eleven years ago. He told me he did not want a physician, and asked me to call a Christian Science practitioner. This I did, and he agreed to give my husband absent treatment. As the patient lapsed into a state of unconsciousness and the condition seemed to be alarming, I felt a great responsibility, as his relatives were many miles away. But the "still small voice" comforted me through the dark hours with these words: "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." The practitioner called daily and worked prayerfully for us both for nearly two weeks; then the healing came, and we were so grateful.
Having eaten ground glass in some meat during the war, I had been under medical treatment for nearly a year. I felt somewhat better, but not entirely free, and the doctors told me the bad effects from it might prevent me from becoming a mother. However, about one year after my husband's healing I gave birth to a son. I relied entirely on God, with the result that everything was very harmonious. Even after these two beautiful healings, it seems we had not yet learned what true obedience means. Although we always turned to Christian Science for help with our difficulties, we did not have the desire to study and progress. Then a problem came that took much consecrated study. With the working out of it and the rejoicing in the healing, there came the desire for a better understanding of God; and my husband, who had been a heavy user of tobacco and gambled freely, experienced the joy of overcoming both of these habits.
Another child was born under treatment in Christian Science, and this was another proof of God's care. For the last seven years we have earnestly studied the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, and have been obedient students of Christian Science. We have had many healings in our home; business problems have been overcome, and wonderful protection was experienced in an automobile accident. I am so grateful that Christian Science was presented to me before I had a family. I read the Lesson-Sermon each morning with the children, and it leaves such a sense of confidence as our little boy goes to school.—Hollywood, California.
