Christian Science has brought so many blessings to our home that it is impossible to write of all of them in one testimony. I should like to tell of a few of the more recent ones, however, with the hope that our experiences may help others.
At the age of four our little daughter caught her thumb in the door of an automobile. The two members of the family with her at the time were students of Christian Science and they immediately began to talk to her of the truths she had been learning at home and in the Christian Science Sunday School. In a very few minutes she stopped crying, and the ride was continued. Nothing more was said about the accident, but when the child returned home she thought of it and tried to call my attention to the finger. I had just finished reading the Lesson-Sermon for the week, and the inspiration I had gained from it kept me from showing anxiety. Thus the child's self-pity was immediately destroyed and the incident forgotten. Only a slight black and blue mark was visible on the finger nail the next day. This disappeared in a few days. We feel very grateful for this experience, as it proved to us the healing power of Christian Science, also the need of the immediate and persistent declaration of the truth regarding a situation.
I myself have had my whole hand pass through an electric wringer and back out again. I found myself making declarations of God's allness and the unreality of matter out loud, even before I knew what had happened. The pain was overcome in a few seconds and I was able to continue my work immediately. It took about an hour to overcome the feeling of lameness in the hand; but there were no bruises, no swelling, no discoloration, no after effects of any kind.
