I wish to mention a case of hemorrhoids which was healed in Christian Science several years ago. Before coming into Christian Science I had used many remedies, and had even undergone an operation, but with little, if any, relief. After giving up material remedies and studying Christian Science, with the help of practitioners I was healed.
One day while studying the Lesson-Sermon for the week I had occasion to leave the books—the Bible, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science Quarterly —for a while. I was suffering so much at the time that the suggestion came to me to use an ointment; but I thought, No, I will not; I have gone this long without it and I will not go back to material remedies. On returning to resume my study of the Lesson-Sermon, I found the next reference in the Lesson was one from Hebrews: "Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows." When I finished the verse I was instantly healed. This was several years ago, and I have never had any return of the hemorrhoids.
