Testimonies of Healing

It is with a sincere desire to express...

From the May 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is with a sincere desire to express the great joy that has come into my life through the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science that I give this testimony.

When our daughter was small, she passed through a period of about two years of great suffering with adenoids. At times her breathing was distressingly difficult and very noticeable to everyone; in fact, I have never known a more severe case. Colds annoyed her continually. Although the help of a Christian Science practitioner was asked for, the healing did not come. Time went on with no relief, until the thought came to me very clearly that it was my work to make this demonstration.

Day after day I made the Lord's Prayer my prayer, and when the suggestion of an operation would present itself I would cling steadfastly to the spiritual interpretation of that part of the prayer, as given on page 17 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, "And God leadeth us not into temptation, but delivereth us from sin, disease, and death;" and as a result of my listening to that gentle voice which speaks from out the sacred Scriptures, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee," a fuller realization of God and His spiritual man came to me. I realized more clearly that matter has neither life nor intelligence, nor can it enlarge itself and become an obstruction in the form of adenoids to interfere with one's right activity. The victory was won, and I rejoiced in the assurance which Paul gives us: "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."—
