"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was put in the pocket of my overcoat by a dear sister, with the suggestion that I might find something useful therein. This, as I remember, was in 1912. The next day I opened the book at random and on seeing the words "God," "Jesus," and "Christ" on several pages, I closed it and back in the pocket it went.
A week later I took the book out again, as in the meantime I had heard some remarks about Christian Science, and out of curiosity read it from the first page to the last without understanding much about it; and I came to the conclusion that it was very dry reading. Later on, the impulse came to me to read it over again and take more time to do it. A glimpse of the truth must have come to me, for I discovered before I had proceeded very far that I was healed of constipation which had troubled me for thirteen years. From then on I took up the study in earnest and read the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly.
I have had many healings since, of rheumatism, colds that were perennial, influenza, corns, and the smoking habit.
