FINDING OUR TRUE SELF

From the May 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

JESUS successfully molded his life to divine Principle, Love, measuring his every thought, word, and deed by the law of Life. The truth of being is concisely stated in the first chapter of Genesis: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him.... And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Every time we become conscious of God's allness, we may behold our true spiritual self as His image.

How unlike the divine revelation set forth in the first chapter of Genesis are the theories of mortal mind! False theology portrays man as fallen—a sinner. Christian Science reveals man as God's perfect idea.

When the great truth of the real man is first presented to us, we may wonder how to begin to work in order that we may reach this high ideal of spiritual selfhood; but as we look more deeply into the truth, thought penetrates the mist of mortal mind and perceives the spiritual, Godlike self, which perhaps we previously did not know existed, and cultivation of the understanding of man's true relationship with God dissipates the perplexities and trials that would hamper our progress, until they finally disappear from our experience.
