In loving appreciation of the ability to realize, even in a small degree, the truth as taught in Christian Science, I am very happy to submit to earnest seekers for physical and spiritual help the following testimony,
In 1910 my mother, who had recently become interested in Christian Science through a healing, lovingly presented me with a Bible and the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was pleased with the Bible and very often read it. Science and Health was placed in a bookrack and was seldom read, and then only in a derisive manner.
About three years afterwards we were given the opportunity to know God as taught in Christian Science. Our daughter, six years of age, was taken severely ill with bronchial pneumonia. She coughed steadily day and night. The doctor was visiting us two or three times daily, without any improvement in our daughter's condition. Then the measles broke out, and the doctor wished us to have her inoculated against diphtheria, which he thought might develop. We never had believed in this form of treatment. While we were debating the matter with the doctor, my mother, to whom I had written about our daughter's condition, arrived at our home. On seeing the condition of the child she asked us to let her remain alone in the room with our daughter, and we consented to the child's having Christian Science treatment rather than having the serum injected. My mother removed all flannels, oils, and so on, and worked in Science all night. In the morning the child's cough had ceased; the measles had vanished; the fever had left. She was dressed, ate heartily, and enjoyed a long walk that day with her grandmother and me. This healing was permanent.
