When a girl in high school studying psychology, I often thought how wonderful it would be if one could always dwell in mind, above the material things of life. Little did I know that at that time there had been presented to the world a book which taught one how to apply Jesus' teachings and to dwell in the realm of Mind at all times and under all conditions. It was several years before this book, "'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, came into our home. Since that time Christian Science has been our only physician, our only help in solving the problems which confront one in daily living.
My first healing was of the fear of taking cold; then the fear of throat trouble left me, and later the fear of tuberculosis, which had been held over me for a number of years, was overcome. Sorrows have been dispelled through the understanding that man never dies. Through the loving help of a practitioner a severe heart trouble was healed in six weeks.
I was also healed of cancer in its incipient stage which manifested itself on the side of the forehead just under the edge of the hair. This manifestation was due to a mental picture (unconsciously retained in my thinking) of a similar condition of a loved one, who suffered greatly under medical treatment. I was not healed quickly, as I did not do specific daily mental work for two reasons: first, because there was very little pain; and, secondly, because it was hidden from view. But there came a time when it seemed that soon it could not be hidden by pulling the hair down over it. Then I knew that something must be done: either I must apply the understanding I had gained through several years of study, or I must call for help from a practitioner. Since no one knew of this condition, not even my own family, I decided that it was a good time to prove, once more, the power of Truth. The condition was entirely healed in six months through the realization of the truth of the words on page 400 of Science and Health: "Every disease is an error, and has no character nor type, except what mortal mind assigns to it. By lifting thought above error, or disease, and contending persistently for truth, you destroy error."
