BALANCING OUR ACCOUNT

From the July 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In these days, when much thought is being given to national balancing and budgeting, and material preoccupation would eclipse spiritual vision, it is especially necessary for the individual Christian Scientist to draw on infinite Mind for inspiration and comfort. In addition to enjoining the payment of debts and the avoidance of extravagance, Christian Science reminds its followers of their indebtedness to God, which can be met in just one way—by reflecting the divine nature and expressing the dominion of Mind.

Since "there is no fear in love," the Christian Scientist owes it to divine Principle to divest himself of unprincipled fear by knowing there is no cause for fear, since God alone is cause. All that exists is limitless, and man can do no less than express infinite abundance.

Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 392): "Fear, which is an element of all disease, must be cast out to readjust the balance for God. Casting out evil and fear enables truth to outweigh error." How much does error weigh in the balance with Truth? It has no place there, nor anywhere; and no substance. If, then, thought tip toward fear the Christian Scientist turns from it to the realization that man is exempt from sickness, danger, financial panic, even as God Himself is exempt from one and all of these impostors. The way to cease from slavery is to submit thought to divine Principle, the liberator.
