THE RADIANCE OF HIS LIKENESS

From the July 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Man is the reflection of God, Mind, the eternal expression of divine Love; therefore, man is at-one with Love, knows what Love knows, feels only the impetus of Love, is attracted only by Love, and is forever fulfilling God's loving purpose.

Remembering this, we cannot be made to listen to the argument of error that we live only to think of ourselves, and that if we can attain so-called material good we shall be willing to rest in it. The lie claims that one is selfish; that he builds up a false mortal sense of himself, idolizes it, always thinks first of it, and cares mostly for it. This is the dream-tale about the dream-man—a mortal; and from this supposititious consciousness comes the condemnation, both of ourselves and of our fellow man, which would press down instead of uplift and help.

Could Jesus have thought of selfishness as real, as a selfish person thinking of nothing but self? No, that was not Jesus' way. Instead, all his words and works point to the lesson we all must learn, the lesson which is expressed in Mrs. Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 99), "The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God's spiritual, perfect man."
