When discouragement has held sway in my thought and everything has seemed dark, I have been able to reverse the testimony of material sense with spiritual ideas by going back to my first healing in Christian Science, received a number of years ago. At that time I was troubled with neuritis, was very nervous, and for over a year had hardly known what it meant to be free from headache. I was having electrical treatments, was on a very strict diet, and was taking several kinds of medicine.
Christian Science was presented to me on a Saturday afternoon. I went with a friend to the Reading Room and something was given to me to read. Later we went to see a practitioner. I shall never forget the feeling I had that first night. I was so uplifted and felt like a different person. The following days, particularly early in the morning, I felt as though I were walking on air. The desire to take medicine left me right away, and I poured out all the medicine I had. In a very short time I was completely healed, and in addition was able to discard glasses which I had worn for a year on account of the headaches.
I have always been most grateful for this first healing, because it started my study of Christian Science, which means more to me each day. I am also deeply grateful for the wonderful light that came to me with this first healing. This has continued with me down through the years. Though the darkness of material sense at times may seem very real, when I realize the truth as taught in Christian Science, the light always pierces the darkness of error. I know this light is from God, who is all-power and greater than any problem that may present itself.
