WE hear much these days about getting a position, or holding a position, and many seem to be either striving for a good material position, or rejoicing because they have one, or fearing that they may lose it. The world has been in the habit of thinking that position is entirely material, and that there is no other kind of position to be sought for.
But what does Christian Science say about position? On page 206 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Philosophical links, which would unite dead matter with animate, Spirit with matter and material means, prayer with power and pride of position, hinder the divine influx and lose Science,—lose the Principle of divine metaphysics and the tender grace of spiritual understanding, that love-linked holiness which heals and saves."
It is sometimes seen that one who, to all appearances, has a splendid material position, may as yet have very little recognition of real, spiritual position. We must understand what is meant by right place and position before we can know whether we have it or not. To the material world in which he seemed to walk, Christ Jesus appeared to have almost no position, being reviled, condemned, and unrecompensed; but we are learning that he had the highest position ever held on earth, and the world will never be able to count the real substance of his recompense.
