REVOLUTION THROUGH REVELATION

From the October 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN various countries revolution has succeeded revolution, each one leaving in its wake a certain veneer of progress, but also much wreckage. To all who have been involved in material revolution, whether for its promotion or suppression, apply the prophets' sayings: "The revolters are profound to make slaughter," and, "They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders." The one all-inclusive slander against God, divine Truth, and His image, spiritual man, is the belief in sinful, material, personal sense. It is this personal sense which betrays men into strife and suffering.

But there is a revolution defined as "a revolution in thought." Its constant arena is human consciousness, and when it results from enlightenment it is desirable. What is producing this revolution in our day? It is spiritual revelation, Christian Science, the demonstrable truth regarding God, man, and the universe, vitally promoting human welfare.

On page 101 of "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy writes: "Christian Science and the senses are at war. It is a revolutionary struggle." Through setting in motion this "revolutionary struggle" between material and spiritual sense, between the temporal and the eternal, the in-actual and the actual, to which there can be only one outcome, this Science is stirring human thought to its very depths. Through Spirit, it is challenging the belief in matter with all its tyranny, pretense, and pomp. Thereby it is bringing healing to the sick, liberation to the sin-enslaved, supply to the poverty-stricken, confidence to the fearful, joy to the sorrowing. Atheism, so prevalent today and even assiduously cultivated, results in spiritual deadness and failure. In its place the revelation of Christian Science offers spiritual awakening and dominion. It leads its students to look beyond the mistaken concept of Jehovah as a warlike Deity to the God who is Love and beneficently evident in the ministry of Christ Jesus and of Christian Science, both of which point to the availability of all good for all mankind.
