This testimony is sent with the...

From the October 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

This testimony is sent with the desire that it may encourage those, whose healings seem slow, to press on. I have been seeking the truth for about four years and have received a number of healings and many blessings. Although there is still much to be corrected, I am not discouraged, because I know it can be done. Mrs. Eddy says on page 406 of Science and Health, "We can, and ultimately shall, so rise as to avail ourselves in every direction of the supremacy of Truth over error." I recall the time that I told a faithful practitioner, after a few months' study, that I did not understand why the demonstration over all errors could not be made. It was pointed out to me that it is only more prayer, work, and understanding that is required that the vision may become clearer. I have learned that as the truth is unfolded to us we are given opportunities to take each forward step. These testing times should not cause us to doubt or fear, but should strengthen us in the power of Truth. Our Leader states (Science and Health, pp. 95, 96), "Humanity advances slowly out of sinning sense into spiritual understanding; unwillingness to learn all things rightly, binds Christendom with chains." In James we read, "Let patience have her perfect work."

I have been healed of cancer, gallbladder infection of about five years' standing, a stomach ailment that seemed to necessitate limiting my diet to eggs and toast for a number of years previous to its healing, influenza, burns, and colds. I have also discarded glasses, after wearing them for many years because of weak eyes. I praise God more and more each day for these healings; but the new understanding of the Bible and the spiritual uplifting reveal the "pearl of great price." Christian Science truly makes a new creature of anyone who seeks Truth.

I find much comfort in our hymns when clouds try to dim the light. Sometimes it is not easy to sing, but I keep making the effort and soon the cloud is gone. Science teaches us that God did not make disease, sin, or evil of any kind. His work is finished, is perfect and eternal. This should be a staff to lean upon until we awake in His likeness and all false sense of His creation is corrected. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church, for the Reading Rooms, literature, lectures, practitioners, and our Leader. My daily prayer is that I may be a true follower of Christ Jesus, and help others as I have been helped. —
