Christian Science came to me in the year 1905, when I was far from home and family. Previously I had only heard of this Science. I attended a church service and enjoyed it greatly. That which impressed me most was the inscription on the church wall, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494)
I was much in need of healing of nervousness, presumably accentuated by the high altitude and the climate. I breathed only with great difficulty. The week following my church attendance I had great need of immediate help. The friend whom I was visiting insisted that a physician be called, for, as she expressed it, I was very ill and it was no time for "tomfoolery," but I recalled the message on the church wall and asked for a Christian Science practitioner. One was called and I shall never forget the messenger who brought me the truth as understood in Christian Science. I had one other treatment and was healed. After the first treatment I sought God's direction to see if this new religion was for me, and opened my Bible to the book of Isaiah, where I read these words: "And thine ears shall hear a voice behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it." I thanked God for the answer and have never ceased to thank Him.
Proofs of God's care in the many years since this first healing have been numerous, and from that day I have never resorted to the use of material remedies for any physical ill, nor have my children ever had any help other than Christian Science.
