Testimonies of Healing

I should like to add my testimony...

From the November 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to add my testimony to those given in the periodicals, which I have enjoyed reading and which have been a great help in the study of Christian Science. I took up the study of this Science thirteen years ago, when in great need of physical, financial, and spiritual help. Up to that time I had never read anything on the subject and had only heard casually of its healing power.

I have been healed of spinal trouble, constipation, and heart trouble. I had learned early in this study that if we have been "faithful over a few things," we shall be made "ruler over many things." The demonstration of tooth extraction without an ansesthetic was another cause for gratification. The dentist marveled at the painlessness of the operation, as the tooth had broken off at the gums. He had to cut the gums in order to get hold of the root, and the bleeding stopped when the operation was over. I am grateful for the help of practitioners, which was so lovingly given during these experiences.

I should feel that this testimony was incomplete if I did not tell of an experience I had while visiting some relatives in an eastern city in 1931. I was seized with a hemorrhage of the throat or lungs, and I immediately knew the truth as given in Science and Health (p. 475), "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements." Also the thought of cause kept coming up in my consciousness, and I held to the truth that "there is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause" (ibid., p. 207). In less than ten minutes the hemorrhage stopped, and in five days the healing was complete.
