Over four years ago I was ill with a severe bladder and kidney disease. I had been in bed for twenty-four weeks and was unable to find any relief from the agonizing pains. The doctor could not help me any more, and he held out no hope to me. My wife, who had already been healed through Christian Science, gave me several copies of the Herald to read, which I did, but I could not understand them at all; however, I felt no particular opposition to this teaching.
As my condition now became more deplorable and hopeless, and I was very near complete despair, after long hesitation I asked a Christian Science practitioner to call. The daily treatment I asked for was given most lovingly. After the first visit I found myself quite roused from lethargy and experienced immediate relief. To my great joy I got up, on the advice of the practitioner, on the third day after his visit and tried to walk. With this my healing began. Five days later I was able to visit the practitioner in his home, although I had to ride half an hour on the train and walk a distance of fully a mile and a quarter. From that time on I got better; and after a very short time I was able to resume my work, to the great surprise of the doctor. However, I still wore a bandage which I did not dare to take off. This fear gave way but slowly, and only as I studied the Christian Science literature earnestly. I learned to put my whole trust in God, in Love alone, and I found that He is power, yea, the only power, governing me and all. I thank God with all my heart that I have been privileged to see this. I learned to know that divine Love is the real Physician. I am inexpressibly grateful to be able again to do my work as a gardener without the bandages or any further trouble.
With all my heart I thank God for my quick healing, for His glorious guidance, and for His infinite goodness and love. I am deeply thankful also to the practitioner for the treatment which he has always given me so lovingly. — Ballenstedt am Harz, Germany.
